Amlodipine-aliskiren

What is Amlodipine-aliskiren?

Amlodipine-Aliskiren, also known as Tekamlo, is a fixed-dose combination medication containing amlodipine, an angiotensin II receptor antagonist, and aliskiren, a direct renin inhibitor. It is primarily used to treat hypertension in patients with chronic kidney disease or those at risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Amlodipine-Aliskiren works by inhibiting the action of angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor, thereby reducing blood pressure and cardiac workload.

What is Amlodipine-aliskiren used for?

Amlodipine-aliskiren, also known as Amturnide, is a fixed-dose combination medication that consists of two active ingredients: amlodipine and aliskiren. Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that inhibits the entry of calcium ions into cardiac and vascular smooth muscle cells, resulting in vasodilation and decreased blood pressure.

Aliskiren, on the other hand, is a direct renin inhibitor (DRI) that works by blocking the activity of renin, an enzyme involved in the production of angiotensin I from its precursor, angiotensinogen. By inhibiting this step in the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS), aliskiren decreases the formation of angiotensin II and aldosterone, which are potent vasoconstrictors that also increase blood pressure.

The combination of amlodipine and aliskiren in Amturnide offers a synergistic effect in lowering blood pressure, making it an effective treatment option for patients with essential hypertension. By inhibiting both the calcium channel blockade and renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system pathways, Amturnide can provide greater efficacy compared to using either agent alone.
