Cycloset

What is Cycloset?

Bromocriptine (marketed as Cycloset) is an oral dopamine D2 agonist medication used to treat type 2 diabetes and to manage signs and symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. It works by stimulating the release of insulin from the pancreas, thereby lowering blood sugar levels, and also increasing the production of certain hormones that help regulate body functions associated with Parkinson’s disease.

What is Cycloset used for?

Cycloset (brand name B Bromocriptine Mesylate) is a medication that belongs to the class of dopamine agonists, specifically D2/D3 receptor agonists. It is a tablet formulation used in the management and treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Cycloset is a non-injectable oral agent aimed at improving glycemic control by stimulating pancreatic insulin secretion and enhancing insulin sensitivity.

The mechanism of action of Cycloset involves activation of dopamine D2/D3 receptors, which leads to an increase in insulin release from the pancreas and improved glucose uptake in skeletal muscle. This results in better blood sugar control in individuals with type 2 diabetes. It is also known to have some beneficial effects on cardiovascular risk factors by lowering systolic and diastolic blood pressure and LDL (bad) cholesterol levels, as well as improving triglyceride profiles.
