Diabeta

What is Diabeta?

DiaBeta (glyburide) Tablets is a diabetes medicine used to help control blood sugar levels and treat type 2 diabetes. DiaBeta is available in generic form.

What is Diabeta used for?

Diabeta is a brand name for the generic medication Glyburide. It belongs to a class of medications known as sulfonylureas, which work by stimulating the pancreas to release insulin in response to high blood sugar levels. This results in an increase in glucose uptake by cells throughout the body, thereby lowering blood glucose levels.

As a first-line treatment for type 2 diabetes mellitus, Diabeta is often prescribed to patients who are unable to achieve adequate glycemic control through dietary means and lifestyle modifications alone. By reducing blood sugar levels, this medication can help prevent or delay the onset of complications associated with high blood sugar, such as heart disease and nerve damage.

The typical starting dose for Diabeta is 1.25mg to 2.5mg per day, which may be adjusted based on individual patient response and blood glucose monitoring results. Patients taking Diabeta should be closely monitored by their healthcare provider to ensure that their medication regimen remains effective in controlling their blood sugar levels while minimizing the risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
