What is FluBlok?
Flublok is an intramuscular vaccine indicated for the prevention of influenza A (H1N1) in individuals 18 years and older. It contains an inactivated, recombinant hemagglutinin protein derived from the H1N1 virus strain. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends FluBlok as a non-influenza-containing seasonal influenza vaccine alternative during times when egg-based vaccines are scarce or difficult to obtain.
What is FluBlok used for?
FluBlok (Influenza Virus Vaccine, Inactivated) is an injectable vaccine designed to protect against influenza or the flu. It is a trivalent vaccine, meaning it contains three strains of the influenza virus that are expected to circulate during the upcoming flu season. The vaccine is manufactured using recombinant DNA technology and does not contain any live, weakened, or killed viruses.
FluBlok is administered as a single dose via intramuscular injection in the deltoid region of the upper arm. It is recommended for active immunization against influenza in individuals six months through 49 years of age. The vaccine works by stimulating the body’s immune system to produce antibodies that recognize and attack the flu virus, thereby preventing infection. As with other flu vaccines, it may take about two weeks after vaccination for the antibodies to develop and provide protection against influenza.
FluBlok side effects
