What is Amantadine? Amantadine is an antiviral medication used to treat and prevent influenza A virus infections. It belongs to the class of adamantane derivatives and works by inhibiting viral replication within the host cells. Amantadine has been shown to be effective in preventing flu-like symptoms when taken as a prophylactic measure, but its use has declined due to widespread resistance among influenza viruses.
