What is Flucelvax?
Fluzone (Intramuscular) / Flucelvax QCV (combined) contains the inactivated viruses of three influenza A/B virus strains and two influenza B virus strains. This vaccine is designed to protect against seasonal flu by stimulating the body’s immune response to fight specific types of influenza viruses.
What is Flucelvax used for?
Flucelvax, also known as Influenza Vaccine (Inactivated, Recombinant), is a vaccine medication developed by Novartis. It is used to protect against seasonal influenza caused by the flu virus. The vaccine is an inactivated version of the flu virus, which means it cannot cause the disease itself but instead stimulates the body’s immune system to produce antibodies that can recognize and fight off future infections.
Flucelvax contains a combination of two different antigens (HA and NP) from the A/H1N1 and B/Yamagata influenza viruses. The vaccine is administered via an injection, typically in the arm, and is usually recommended for use by individuals aged 4 years or older who are not vaccinated against influenza with another type of flu vaccine. Flucelvax has been shown to be effective in preventing influenza illness and reducing the risk of hospitalization due to influenza-related complications.
It’s essential to note that, as with all vaccines, Flucelvax may cause side effects, such as soreness, redness, or swelling at the injection site. In rare cases, more severe reactions can occur, but these are typically mild and temporary. It is recommended that you consult with a healthcare professional for further information about the vaccine’s usage and potential risks.
